2011 Fishing Reports

Our reports cover everything from guide trips to family trips and exploratory missions.  As guides we will always let you know how the fishing went but we may not tell you exactly what we were using.  Check often as we will update this page as often as we can.

23-Dec-11 December 15-23

Been a great week off from school.  I have caught 5 more lynx and 3 fox this week trapping.  Turning out to be a good season.  The Booth's have been ice fishing several times as well.  There are tons of fish to be caught, the problem is they are all 12 inches long.  Every once in a while a 20 incher will show up and that keeps us going.  Hope you all have a Good Christmas.  For the next up date on how/what the Booths are up to look at the 2012 fishing report after the 1st of the year.

07-Dec-11 December- the first week

We had a lot of rain so almost all the snow is gone on the valley floor.  Made for some tough trapping conditions.  I caught several rabbits to only have lynx come eat the rabbits out of the traps.  Did manage one more lynx so now I am up to 5 of those.  Justin wrestled in a tournament this week.  He pinned everyone he wrestled on his way to first place.  I am very proud of him.  Only a few more days until Christmas break, I can hardly wait!

26-Nov-11 November

Wow, has November been busy!! Justin is wrestling again and doing very well. Trapping season started the 11th of November. I have 4 lynx, a red fox and a coyote so far. Went to Missouri for Thanksgiving. Had a great time with mom and dad. While there, Bill shot 2 deer. A nice 7 point and a fork horn. The phone has started to ring and emails have started with people asking about fishing next summer. If you have a date in mind give us a shout so we can save a spot for you.

17-Oct-11 10-15/16-11

Bill and 5 others went on a big 4wheeler ride this weekend.  Bill was scouting his trapline and camping with friends.  They saw over 60 moose, a wolf and a bizzillion rabbits.  The group shot 73 rabbits and ran out of room to tie them to the 4wheelers.  They had a great time.  Bills son Justin tagged along for his first 4wheeler trip with the guys ridding his own 4wheeler(dads).  It ended Just like most of Bills did when he was a kid.  Justin rolled the 4wheeler hurting his sholder a little and doing about 500 bucks in damage to the bike.  Pay back for all the "stuff" Bill thrashed that was his dads.  Trapping starts on the 10th of November and then there should be some good reports to add from then untill Salmon roll in.

10-Oct-11 10-9-11

Well the rabbits are almost all white and there is no snow.  That makes for  fun bow hunting!  Have killed several even though Bill is not a great bow shot.  If you would like to get in on some good hunting in great weather now is the time, once the snow falls the rabbits are much tougher to find.

If you are in Alaska and have an ATV you might be interested in a ride/camping trip this weekend.  Bill and a couple of buddies are going for a 4 wheeler ride and camping trip this weekend.  Should be fun and a few rabbits and grouse will be found along the way.  If you are interested in tagging along everyone is welcome just give Bill a call at 745-5464

30-Sep-11 9-29-11 Trout Fishing

Headed up the Parks HWY to fish for trout on the Kashwitna river.  The water was very low and crystal clear.  In just a couple of hours I caught several grayling, three char, one of witch was almost 5 pounds and 4 rainbow trout.  All the fish were caught on flesh flys.  I am thinking of running a couple of king trips there next summer if people are interested.  Keep checking back if you are interested in what the Booths are doing with their free time.

19-Sep-11 September 17th and 18th

Bill, Justin and 3 other tearchers from Teeland and Colony High went to Lake Creek and the pike cabin.  The trout fishing was very good.  They caught more than they could keep track of.  Several times they had 4 on at once.  Seemed like there was alwaysa fish on.  Eric Troisi caught a dime bright Silver salmon and they all caught several nasty chums.  While only fishing for pike an hour or two, everyone caught 4 or 5 each.  The group of guys also shot a dozen ducks give or take.  There were no moose or bears to be seen.  Bill is going to put his boat away for the season this week and switch to his 4 wheeler to chase stuff around.  Check back now and then to see what he is up to.

08-Sep-11 Pike and trout

Bill and some guys from work are headed up to the pike cabin and Lake Creek for some pike and trout fishing the 17th and 18th of September.  Duck and brown bear season is also open so they will be looking for those as well.  Check back Monday the 19th of September to see how the trip went.

04-Sep-11 September 4th

Well Bill got back a day early from his moose  hunt near Glenallen.  He shot a nice Bull with an antler spread of 51 inches and had 4 brow tines on one side and 3 on the other.  His hunting partner John shot one a little smaller but also had 4 by 3 brow tines.  The 3rd hunter Greg needs to spend a little more time at the shooting range....he missed his very large bull... twice.  It was a great time and now we have a lot of meat to process.

The rest of September will be filled with Colony High football, duck hunting and trout fishing.  Check back now and then and see how things are going.  Remember it is never too early to book your fishing trip for the summer of 2012!!

26-Aug-11 August 26th

The first day of rifle season came and went with nothing fun to report.  We walked several miles and saw a few moose but were not able to get a good shot.  Both Bill and David have big moose hunts planned in different parts of Alaska starting the 1st of September.  If you would like to know how those hunts went check back after the 5th.

On a side note Bills son Justin made the varsity football team and starts at right tackle as a sophmore.  Dude his huge! 6'4'' and 250 pounds.

13-Aug-11 August 13th

Bill has spent the last few days looking to get a moose with his bow.  Bill has seen lots of moose but no bulls the right size.  The moose he has seen have been too far for him to shoot with his bow any way.  Good thing for him rifle season starts the 25th of this month.  The water at the river is still high but is dropping now.  I bet silvers could be caught in the next few days with the water dropping as fast as it is.

09-Aug-11 August 9th

Two of my last 5 groups chose to give it a try in the high muddy water.  What a good choice that was!!!  Both groups got limits of silver salmon.  I guess they knew somthing I didnt.  Well, no more trips for the summer of 2011.  If you are interested on how hunting, trapping and wrestling season works out keep checking back.  Bill will post when good or interesting things happen.  Have a good winter  and Trophy Catch hopes to see you on the river next summer.

07-Aug-11 August 7th

If you look at the USGS water chart for the Little Su it shows the water will rise very high the next two days.  The high water and low number of silvers will be a problem.  Bill will give his last few trips a choice.  Get your deposit back because the catching will be poor, or they can take their chances of not catching in the high water.  Of course Bill will do his very best to find them some fish if the choose to give it a try.   907-745-5464

06-Aug-11 August 6th

Bill took 4 people fishinh this afternoon.  The group hooked about ten fish only landing 5 chum salmon.  The river was much higher due to the rain the other day and it was the most crowded Bill had seen it this whole summer.  Bill is Not guiding Sunday so he can get ready for his moose hunt on the 10th.  Bill will be guiding 3 trips Monday and one Tuesday morning.

05-Aug-11 August 5th

Bill took 4 fisherman this morning.  There were only 4 boats out this morning.  The 4 fisherman each had a limit of silvers in just under an hour!!!  It rained very hard today.  The water will be on the rise and that makes it tough to catch fish.  Bill is now compleaty book for the rest of his season.  School will start in a few days.  Plan ahead and book you trip for next year.  907-745-5464

05-Aug-11 August 4th

Bill took 2 groups today.  In the morning he had 3 fisherman.  each kept a limit of of silvers within the first 3 hours of the trip.  The catching was good.

In the afternoon Bill took 4 fly fishermen up river.  The group caught and released more than 20 chum salmon and caught and kept 2 silvers.

It was a great day on the river!!

03-Aug-11 August 3rd

I just got word from Fish and Game that the Little Su will not open to bait on the 6th.  This is good news.  Instead of having a kill fest Saturday then nothing else to catch the rest of the season we will have consitent spinner fishing the rest of the season.  I thank Sam Ivey for listening to the concerns of the guides on the Little Su.  Those of you fishing with Bill the next week, fear not, there will be fish for you to catch.

03-Aug-11 August 3rd

Bill did not fish again today.  He has trips planned the next 6 days then he will stop guiding for the season.  Bill has a few spots open if you would like to try your luck at catching some silver salmon.  907-745-5464

02-Aug-11 August 2nd

Bill did not fish today.  Next planned trip is the afternoon the 4th.

01-Aug-11 August 1st

Bill did not fish today.  His next trip is on the afternoon of the 4th.  If you would like to go before then give us a call.  907-745-5464  Bill will only be fishing untill the 9th this year due to teachers having to report back to work and his favorite time of year.......Moose season opens the 10th!!!!

31-Jul-11 July 31st

Bill took 4 fishermen on a short trip this afternoon.  The two young boys caught 6 salmon in just under 3 hours.  They got 2 silvers and 4 chum.  The parents only caught a chum between the 2 of them.  The action was better than expected on such a short trip. The number of silvers in the Little Su concerns Bill.  Bill would be in support of having the Little Su NOT open to bait the 6th of Aug.  The number of silvers is just too low.

31-Jul-11 July 29th (afternoon) and the 30th

Bill took a group of college football coaches up to the pike cabin.  They caught nearly a hundred pike in that day and a half.  On the way back they stopped at the mouth of Lake Creek for about an hour.  During that time they caught 2 silvers and several pink salmon.

31-Jul-11 July 29th

Bill had a very intersting trip this morning.  He was able to guide 3 fisherman who were filming a TV show for the A&E channel.  The trip only lasted a couple of hours and much of that time was shooting footage of the guests talking and riding in the boat.  The show will come out in early November.  The guests were Kyle and Chris Massey and Bristol Palin.  They managed to catch 2 fish and loose another in the short amount of time they fished.  Bill spent a lot of his time laughing at the whole process of Hollywood.

27-Jul-11 July 27

Bill fished with four people this afternoon.  The goup hooked about twenty fish landing 3 silvers and about 7 chum.  Lots of action this past week but mostly because of the high number of chum salmon this year.  A few more silvers in the river would be nice.  Bill will be fishing pike the next few days so look for the next report Sunday afternoon.  There are plenty of openings next week just before the bait opener on the 6th.  From the 6th through the 10th Bill is nearly booked up and will return to teaching then so his season will end then.   907-745-5464

25-Jul-11 July 25th

Bill took 4 fishermen today.  The fishing was very good this morning.  The group kept 5 silvers and 4 chum salmon.  There seems to be a lot of chum salmon this year compared to the number of silvers.  Good thing chums bite and fight hard.  Bills next scheduled trip is Wednesday afternoon.

24-Jul-11 July 24th

Bill did not fish today he was recovering from the reception.  Bill will be fishing Monday morning.  There is plenty of space available this week if you would like to try your luck at catching some silver salmon.  907-745-5464

24-Jul-11 July 23rd

Bill did not fish today.  His little girl Amanda got married.

22-Jul-11 July 22nd

Bill took two clients.  They caught 5 silvers and 1 chum.  Even Bill managed to catch 2.  Fishing will continue to improve.  We have many seats available next week.   Give us a call at 745-5464.

21-Jul-11 July 21st

Bill took 2 fishermen and 1 Wildlife viewer this morning.  They hooked 7 salmon and landed 3 silvers and 1 chum.  Water conditions are good.   Bill had 4 fishermen this afternoon.  They caught 5 silvers, 5 chums, and had 3 or 4 other bites that got away.   There was not a lot of boat traffic today.  It was a good day for fishing.

20-Jul-11 July 20th

Today Bill took four women from Russia.  They spoke very little english and had never touched a fishing pole before.   They figured out the casting and were successful.  The group hooked  9 salmon and landing 4 chums.  Silvers were hard to come by today.  Bill will be fishing the next couple of days, but not Friday afternoon or Saturday our daughter is getting married.

20-Jul-11 July 19th

Bill took a family of 5 in the afternoon.  Their patience paid off with only 1 fish in the boat they caught 4 more and lost 2 others in the last 20 minutes of the trip.  Bill will be guiding another group of 4 tomorrow afternoon.

18-Jul-11 July 18th

Bill had 3 clients this morning.  They caught 6 silvers, 1 chum, and lost two fish.  The weather was good and the water is coming up.  The fish seem to be coming in better than yesterday.  In the afternoon Bill had 2 clients and limited out.  It was a good day for fishing.  Give us a call we have an few more openings this week.  1-907-745-5464.

Happy Fishing!

17-Jul-11 July 16th and 17th

Bill fished at the Pike cabin and at Lake Creek.  In two days more that 40 pike, 1 silver, and close to 50 rainbow trout were caught.  It was a great trip.   The Yentna fish wheels are starting to catch some salmon. Bill is guiding Silver salmon for the next couple of days.  Check back to see how the catching is on the Little Su.  Each day more are being caught.  With the rain, the river should be coming up.

15-Jul-11 July 14th

Bill took 4 clients in the afternoon the 14th.  He fished the tide water most of the time and they did not catch or hook any fish.  One salmon rolled in one of the spots they were fishing and that was all they saw during that trip.  Later that day Bill took his wife and son up river to see what they could find.  The water was very clear and they could see the bottom the entire way.  In one spot we could see about 15 chum and a single silver salmon.  Justin hooked a chum for a short time and then lost it.  On a side note I did see something interesting.  For the first time we saw a red squirrel swim the river.  It was funny as that squirrel was not a good swimmer.  Bill will be guiding the next several days so check back to see how the catching improves.

03-Jul-11 Family Trip

Just had an awesome ten days at the pike cabin.  We caught lots of pike, the biggest being 11 pounds this trip.  Lake Creek was awesome!!  Everyone caught lots of trout, a grayling and one char was caught as well.  Several big red kings were caught on our light tackle.  If you would like to try and catch an early silver on the Little Su give me a call and we will give it a try for $100.00 per person before the 14th of July.  Silver charters and a couple of pike trips will be going full swing by the 15th of July.

03-Jun-11 6/03 King Fishing

Fished the Deshka today.  We landed one king about 25lbs and hooked two others which we got right up to the boat but lost just short of netting them.  We also missed another good bite.  It was a great trip we only fished about 4hrs.   Also talked to the park service Ranger, Buzz, at the little su and he said Friday was the best day so far with about 25% of the anglers catching Salmon. David will be Guiding a full day for pike on Sunday and that should be excellent fishing.   It may have been a little late but I think we can go get king action now on every trip.  Call us to book your charter for Kings on the Little Su, Deshka or Northern Pike up the Yetna.

02-Jun-11 6-2 King Fishing

Bill fished in the morning with three people and failed to hook any fish or get any bites.  He watched one other guide land a king about 20lbs and another angler land a fish he estimated at 45lbs.

01-Jun-11 5/28-6/1 Pike fishing

Dave, Kristina and family with two extra boys spent the weekend a Fish Lake relaxing and fishing pike.  Both were excellent.  Over 100 pike were landed by the boys and Joe landed a pike of about 20lbs.  Pike fishing is probably the best fishing in the valley at this time with king fishing hoping to pick up any day.
